Project Management Professional is the industry-wide recognized certificate for project managers. It makes you stand out from the crowd.

The certificate is provided by the Project Management Institute (PMI), USA.

Only 2% of the industry's current project managers are PMP certified.

Eligibility criteria:

  • 35 Professional Development Units (PDU) from an Authorized REP.
  • 2 years of managerial experience.

The PMP course covers the topics in PMBOK 6 and the agile topics as specified in the Exam Content Outline 2021.

Agile concepts are trained using Mike Griffiths’ book.

PMP changes your mindset and improves your communication and psychological skills.

PMBOK 6 covers the role of the project manager, five process groups, and Agile concepts. Project managers with a PMP certificate earn at least 20% more than the market range compared to other project managers.

The 5 process groups covered in Pmbok6 are as below:

  • Initiation
  • Planning
  • Execution
  • Monitoring and Controlling
  • Closing

At least 70% of the syllabus in PMBOK 6 is in the planning section. Planning is the most important area in any project management.

There are a total of 49 processes in PMP. Each process has its own Input, Output, Tools & Techniques.

PMI doesn't propose any methodology for project management. The project can be managed with Scrum, Kanban, or any of the methodologies and still follow the PMP processes.

Syllabus changes are not new in PMP. PMI changes the exam content outline every 3 to 5 years. It reviews the current project management practices in the market and aligns the content with the current trend. Before 2021, the exam was based on the PMBOK6 book in which the content is divided into 5 sections. After 2021, the exam content changes, and the number of domains is reduced from 5 to 3, with the focus shifting to process, people, and business environment.

The PMBOK 6 guide has also gone through a lot of changes, and so a new PMBOK 7 guide has been introduced.

Below are the critical references for the project management exam.

  • PMBOk6
  • PMBOK7
  • AGILE book by Mike Griffiths
